Review of Adam West/Mazinga split 7" EP in Flipside - March 1999
This is not only a split band 7", but a split label 7" as well. Adam West play very good rock'n'roll. Nice, fast beat and lots of variation along with good musicians keep it interesting. This side was also recorded live at CBGBs and the recording is excellent - better than lots of studios! Adam West is from Washington D.C. Mazinga is from Ann Arbor, MI. They played two songs on their side of this split. The first one is a rock and roll song. It was fast and had lots of guitar and wa wa pedal action. It also had lots of rockabilly influence in it too. The second song was a faster, more punk, song. Once again, there was a lot of nice guitar work in there, but the song seemed more of the punk style (fast punk that is) than rock. In this 7" is also a cool comic of Adam West and Mazinga that's well drawn and very funny. It pits both bands working together to destroy corporate rock bands and the corporate fucks behind it all. Now nornally I'm not a fan of rock, but I like this 7" and definitely can appreciate good, energetic music. So I highly recommend you pick this up, especially if you like REAL rock and roll!
