Preview of 8/28/98 Metro Cafe show
Shows You Would Hate to Miss!
- Friday, August 28, ADAM WEST at Metro Cafe (1522 14th St. NW,
202-588-9118). Well I don't usually have more than one pick for the same
night. Not really on purpose, but it just usually works out that way. I
have three for this night, but the bands are different enough that I think
folks will choose based on their mood, and that's the way it goes. Adam
West plays hard, fast rock music and they're damn good at it. They've been
around long enough that they've grabbed the hogg by the handlebars and know
how to bust out some tight, aggressive rock songs. For example, they use
distortion, duh, but it's not like a wall of fuzz, heavy metal distortion.
The songs growl. Singer Jake Starr has an aggressive voice but it's not all
harshed out and intelligible. Dude can really sing. The songs are fun and
cathartic. Wow, I used the words "hogg," and "cathartic" in the same
review. Plus intelligible. Man, you readers are getting your money's
worth. Mud City Manglers and Insult to Injury are also on the bill. And be
on the lookout for the new Adam West CD coming out soon on Fandango Records..
