Sidewalk.Com Faces the Local Music - July 1998
Washington Sidewalk.com is trying to be your favorite site on the internet by focusing on one single word -- content, content, content. Oh yeah, and another word - local. The site is a MicroSoft endeavor, and endeavors to be the most informative and useful site in each of the locales they've chosen to serve (DC, New York, Chicago, etc.).
Not only does Sidewalk offer listings of clubs, restaurants and the sort, they're doing magazine-style articles. It's the sort of publication that could only happen on the web, combining a magazine with a yellow pages. Local content. There's a column called Face The Music that features local musicians. Wow! Local musicians featured in a MicroSoft web site. I never would have guessed this was going to happen.
Currently in Face The Music, Sidewalk's Mark Miller interviews Jake Starr, lead singer of DC hard-rocker's Adam West. Jake tells how the real Adam West feels about the band's name and reveals how the band used the web to win out-of-town fans. If you don't get around to the site before the next Face The Music article, fear not. There's an archive of past interviews -- another great feature of the web. The archives already boast 35 articles with some of DC's best including Big Black Nun, Pam Bricker, Lisa Cerbon, Congregation, Cravin' Dogs, Dead Girls and Other Stories, eddie from ohio, emmet swimming and so forth and so on....
Here's the address for the interview: http://washington.sidewalk.com/link/23743.
